How the Anti-Bias Toolkit works

CV redaction screening is one of the foremost steps of anti-bias hiring. Removing personally identifiable information reduces the opportunity for unconscious bias from influencing the hiring process resulting in more equitable recruitment. In the settings section of RecruitDuo, a company setting ensures all jobs have CV anonymisation switched on. If this remains off, each job can be individually tailored, depending on the role. Any reference to the candidate’s name, ethnicity, college or any other demographic will be redacted. This includes the answers to their screening questions and any attached files.

The following is the list of demographic indicators that we retract:

Address Personal Public Service Number (PPSN)
Age Phone number
Any other names of the individual Photos
College/University Name Pronouns
Date of Birth Race
Ethnicity References
First name Religion
Gender Secondary School
Middle name Sexual Orientation
Name Social Media handles
National Insurance Number (NIN) Surname
Nationality

  • When a candidate applies, their name will appear on the candidate list as  ‘Redacted Candidate 1’ etc.
  • Select ‘view profile’ on the right hand side
  • Choose ‘Redacted CV’ to open the CV - the file will open on screen with personally identifiable information redacted
  • If the candidate Status is updated to ‘Moved to Screening’ the redaction will remain in place
  • Once the candidate is ‘Moved to Interview’ status or above, a warning will appear advising that the candidate's full information will be visible and this action cannot be undone.
  • Choose confirm if you are ready to see candidates' information.

Note: If ‘anti bias toolkit’ is enabled after a job already has applicants, redaction will only be possible for future candidates.
