What Should I Know About Carried Forward Leave Expiry Dates?
While Carried Forward Leave does reduce immediate overheads, allowing it to build up can create a costly liability if the user leaves. We have now introduced expiry dates on carried forward leave to allow the system to cooperate with company policies that require employees to use their accrued Carried Forward Leave by a certain time or lose it.
In the Carried Forward Leave Section of Leave Setting you can now set expiry limits:
- No Expiry Date
- By End of Annual Leave Year
- By End of Quarter
- By End of Month
- Specific Number of Days
If you switch this on, you will be asked whether it should apply to future given carried forward leave or to new and existing leave. Choosing the latter will remove any carried forward leave that is older than your expiry limit.
This cannot be undone and would have to be replaced manually on an individual basis.
Employees will be reminded to take their leave in a timely manner and you can customise how often those reminders are sent. If an employee does not use their carried forward leave by the expiry date, they will be notified that it is expired. Managers will be able to adjust expiry dates in the staff members leave profile
Note: It is best practice to consult with staff on changes such as these, particularly where a practice may be established but not documented or where it differs from the documented policy.
